Anyone have a pediatric urologist to recommend?

Dr. Dix Poppas is the best, no question. NY Presbyterian (York Ave. & 68th) (212) 746-5337.

We love Daniel Herz. His address is 5 East 98th Street, 6th floor, 212-241-7439. He is affiliated with Mt. Sinai and he has great bedside manner. (We also saw Dr. Schlussel who was recommended my pediatrician and thought he was the worst. He was arrogant and totally blew off any of my concerns.)

We actually met with a pediatric urologist who came highly recommended by our pediatrician and our mohel--who is going to perform the surgery for our son who had hypospadius. His name is Dr. Steven Tennenbaum (he is also a mohel) 212-305-4421.

I have the best one for you. My son had to have surgery for (mild hypospadia plus circumcision) and I'm really impressed with this doctor. His name is Dr. Terry Hensle, 212-305-8510. He's affiliated with NY Presbyterian, Columbia - specifically, the Morgan Stanley Children's and Babies Hospital. This hospital is very kid/baby-friendly. In the recovery room, there were adults dressed up and singing soft songs to the kids. I'm still seeing Dr. Hensle for my son's follow-up appointments and I need to take my other son to see him next year. He's been in practice for decades and has seen & done everything. Also, this is the only hospital in the area that allows a mohel to be in the OR. Mine was there and he said some prayers and did the final snip.

My son needed to be evaluated after birth and was diagnosed with a dorsal hood. Ended being OK in the end, but the MD who saw him was the Chief of pediatric urology at NY Pres/Cornell, Dr. Dix Poppas. We liked him a lot.

We had to have our son's circumcision redone. We saw Dr. Howard Ginsburg at NYU. He was excellent. A friend of mine recommended him highly and we were not disappointed. We were incredibly impressed by Dr. Ginsburg and by the treatment we received at NYU, and also by the facility itself.

We had a very good experience with Dr. Schlussel (who came highly recommended from a number of sources) 212-305-1114, office located at 65 East 96th. He operated on our son when he was 6 weeks old.

Both of my sons saw Dix Poppas. He is the chief of pediatric urology at New York Cornell Hospital. One of my boys had to be checked out for possible kidney reflux, and both had adhesions from their circumcisions (that's where the skins grows back a little). He came highly recommended and we thought he was very bright. Luckily, all checked out ok on the reflux front but we felt VERY comfortable being in his hands.

I researched several pediatric urologists in NY. The best, by far, was Dr. Richard Schlussel on East 96th street. He's with Columbia Presbyterian Children’s Hospital, which is an exceptional hospital.

Dr. Schlussel is the nicest most patient doctor I have ever met. He was the only doctor that didn't push us into surgery. Unlike the four other pediatric urologists I met with, he was willing to try every alternative and avoid surgery. He returns phone calls and openly answers questions in a most detailed, communicative manner. I just cannot say enough nice things about him. I wish he was our pediatrician. A friend from my mom's group also knew of Schlussel. Her daughter had a kidney problem at birth. She had the same experience with him and cannot rave enough. He has the best credentials. (Harvard Medical School, interned at Harvard's Children’s Hospital in Boston, chief of Pediatric Urology at Mt. Sinai at age 40.)

Dr. Marc Horowitz at NY Hospital redid my son's circumcision. He and the hospital were both excellent.

Dr Schlussel is highly recommended. My daughter has kidney reflux and I searched and spoke to him a lot, he's renowned in the field.
