Physicians & Procedures

Specialists we have used and liked... (Want more specific references? Email Paris to contact the parents behind these recommendations.)

Pediatric Neurologists:

We saw Abe Chutorian when we needed a pediatric neurologist.  He is a straight shooter...doesn't sugar coat anything...we love that about him.  Here's his info:
654 Madision Ave - 6th floor (60th Street), 212-750-2800.

Pediatric Orthopedists:

Dr. Daniel Green, 212-606-1631, Hospital for Special Surgery.

Dr. Richard Ulin, 212-860-0905, 1095 Park Avenue. He isn't specifically a pediatric orthopedist, but does see a lot of children.

Dr. David Scher at the Hospital for Special Surgery.

Dr. Steven Lee at Lenox Hill.

Developmetal Pediatricians:

Dr. John Garwood at Mt. Sinai was just wonderful.  My girls saw him about five times for their "preemie clinics" and I wish he could be our regular pediatrician.  He was so calm and the girls loved him. He made me feel a lot better in the very beginning when the girls had some preemie issues, and he was totally right about everything (they outgrew everything just when he said they would!). Excellent. (Two recommendations from group.)

Dr. Newman Cedar, Upper East Side, 212-737-7800

I'd ask Dr. Daniel Cammerman, Park Avenue and 96th Street, for a recommendation within his practice (which is headed by top-ranked pediatrician Dr. Ramon Murphy). It is a great practice, affiliated with Mt. Sinai (which also has top specialists). 212-427-0540.

Dr. Gerald Loughlin, New York Weill Cornell Children's Hospital, http://www.nyp.org/news/hospital/163.html

Dr. Jennifer Cross, also at Weill Cornell, http://www.cornellphysicians.com/jfcross/

Dr. Mark Bertin, 106 Washington Avenue, Pleasantville, NY, 10570, phone 914 841 2302

Dr. Catherine Canary at Mount Sinai. She is great and herself has a son with a developmental issue. I really liked her style, very low key, not alarmist, took lots of time and called me from home to discuss her report.  Her number is 212-241-3872. (Two recommendations from group.)

Twin mom Mary Jane Lane asked the group how she might check a doctor's record before using his/her services and she shares the following suggestions offered by the group. Thanks, Mary Jane!

You can try www.nydoctorprofile.com.

Try your state's Dept. of Health's professional conduct department. In New York this is found at www.health.state.ny.us-lists. It provides a list of doctors who have been disciplined by the agency.

You can contact the hospital where the doctor has privileges.  Tell them you would like to research how many given procedures he has performed, etc.

In New York this site shows if a doctor has had certain violations: www.nyhealth.gov/nysdoh/opmc/main.htm
